CL’s sleepless nights, determination, and hard work are all slowly paying off. Not only is she receiving the nods and catching the eyes (and ears) of respected artists, bloggers, and fashion folks in her home country and overseas, she has also now received formal recognition for the solo work she has done.
As many CL-fans know, CL released her hip-hop solo single “The Baddest Female” in 2013. The track hit #1 in all of Korea’s real-time music charts upon release and gained CL her first #1 of the week from SBS Inkigayo. The MV for her single has also gained over 11 million views to date in YouTube and consequently ranked #8 on Billboard’s Top 20 most viewed MV in America and her music video, instantly after its release, ranked No.1 on Chinese music video website Yinyuetai in Korean music video category respectfully.
CL’s “The Baddest Female” broke through iTunes all genre music chart and hip-hop/rap tally making her presence felt in the US mainstream. Her track was also well received in other countries as evidence by the inclusion of “The Baddest Female” in Top 10 on iTunes, occupying at #1 on the iTunes’ Top Singles chart. The single was spotted at #1 on the iTunes’ Top Singles chart in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The song also fared well in other countries as well, it landed at #4 in Sweden, #35 in Finland, #6 in Czech Republic, #4 in Norway, #2 in Brazil, and #5 in Brunei, making its way into the Top 100 charting in more than 30 countries. This solo single from 2NE1’s fearless leader landed 7th in “Top 10 biggest-selling K-pop songs in America based on Billboard’s year-end World Digital Songs chart”. CL’s The Baddest Female ranked at #169 on Gaon’s 2013 yearly chart with 549,324 downloads in total.
CL also received the award for “Best Dance Performance by Solo Artist” at the 2013 MAMA , “20′s Style” at Mnet 20′s Choice Awards 2013 and the “2013 Hottest Female Artist” at the 5th annual Philippine Kpop Convention 5.
She ended her 2013 with a rousing collaboration with KPop’s very own queen of spunk and sass, Lee Hyori, and both bad girls showed everyone just how good BAD can be.
