CL’s Quotes

  • From young, my dad had liked music. I grew up listening to music freely and gaining interests in it. The singers I really look up to are Lauryn Hill from the Fugees and Madonna. I see them as historical female musicians. (MyDaily, Jul 17, 2009)
  •  I think of this as my last resort. Back then I was thinking if this does not work, I’ll just have to try something else. I heard that to be able to meet Yang Hyun Seok you have to wait everyday at the company building and even have to stay overnight there. And to prepare my demo tape, I had put in a lot of practice and it was one of the most hardworking times of my life. I think of it and without fear I went for the challenge. I hope that is not the time when my passion is burning the highest. (MyDaily, July 17, 2009)
  •  The musicians I prefer are Lauren Hill and Madonna. Although the two have quite contrasting feelings to them. The two, as females, are strong musicians, and they don’t follow the path that guys have gone down before. They’re musicians that will leave behind their colours and remain in history. My own philosophy, as, well, like Madonna, is to be strong, in a single word, icon.
  •  I want to be like someone who will show off her own charms and yet not force it out too strongly on stage. You can simply just see her existence on stage. (July 2009)
  • Even though it is still no up to satisfaction, with all the musical inspirations I get and accumulate, I hope to show to everyone the music I make one day. (July 2009)
  • I’m completely cold and warm, and change from an angel to a devil. It’s just like how CL and Chaerin are clearly different, but both are me.
  • People say there are limits, but honestly, I think I don’t have that. It’s just that people don’t do anything about it. I want to show people a performance that will make them think, “She can even do this.”
  • As a singer, I’m a novice. There are still too many things to experience. But I try not to think of this work as a job. I don’t listen to a lot of music and practice singing because I’m a singer. Because I like to sing and dance, I am a singer. If the time comes and I feel that this work has simply become a job, I think I’d quit without regret. There’s no reason to do this work if there’s no fun in it. “Having fun while working” is really important to me.
  • I just want to live while doing work that has meaning. Work that has meaning to me, not to others. Because at the moment, it’s dancing and singing, I am doing this work.
  •   Right now, there are only 4 people that I can say are my friends. Truthfully, even if I have only one friend my entire life, that would be enough. Whether that’s my husband or boyfriend, I’d like it to be someone that I love.
  • I really like people. I have a large family and I like people crowding around me. However, I’m most comfortable when I’m the only one in that person’s heart. I don’t like being alone in a desert, but I like being alone in a big city. (Vogue girl, July 19, 2010)
  • I’m a workaholic and not good at relaxing. Even if I had a holiday, I’d probably go to the gym and exercise  If it was a long holiday, I’d want to go travelling. I want to go to a place that doesn’t know about me.
  • My personality is always black and white. It’s never in the middle.”
  • My father often listened to Lauryn Hill so when I was singing along while listening to it, there was a moment where I thought “singing is fun!” It was when I was about 10 years old.
  • I wrote one line in “UGLY”. The part that goes “The world is full of lies”
  • We want to be an icon instead of being an idol. Since presenting good music to the public is the job of a singer, we want to give hope to the ones who are working for their dreams. We want to be that confident icon that represents women
  • There is no such thing as the ‘2NE1 style.’ We’re not a group that will stick to one color. Predictability and normalcy; it’s all so boring, isn’t it? We will never stop reinventing ourselves; we’ll always be the group with no boundaries, no limits and no answers.
  • Music has no language barrier. It’s just music, you could just listen to it and feel it. When you’re on stage, you connect to it. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Korean, or in English. It’s just a matter of what we show and inspire.
  • We’re different, but not wrong.
  • The difference between K-Pop and Pop is just the language, music has the power to break down any walls.
  • Blackjacks are like family and like friends.
  • I want to be a singer-songwriter, who writes different kinds of music, I don’t want to be restricted to one kind of music only, and want to make songs that cover a variety of concepts that different people could like.
  • I’m childish, that’s my charm. I’m fearless, that’s my youth.
  • When life gets rough, turn to music! When you can find lyrics you can empathize with and some music you can really feel, I guarantee it can be a big help to you.
  • In 30 years, I hope that we age along with our music. We may be walking separate paths, but I’d love it if we could get together once in a while and hold a concert under the name of ’2NE1.’ No matter what we do, we won’t be leaving music.
  • I hope that all of our songs are delivered properly on stage. What’s more important than winning is having everyone truly enjoy our performances. I think it’d be a great honor to be able to influence someone’s joy.
  • There’s no one in this world that isn’t original. You can not find the same person as another.
  • I just love art as a whole. Fashion is art, and everything is intertwined.
  • There’s always a message in our songs. we want to let everyone know that there are people who sing about the power of women. We’re not saying to throw away one’s femininity, but to know that we’re not all delicate just because we’re women.
  •  I think, first of all, it means confidence. I think you have to be who you truly are and love who you are (to be beautiful).  It’s also important to be free and honest, enjoying life and having fun. In conclusion,… I am who I am.
  • As I performed on more stages, I became sure that, that was what I wanted to do because it was what I always dreamed of.
  • Even though it is still no up to satisfaction, with all the musical inspirations I get and accumulate, I hope to show to everyone the music I make one day.
  • Just because we sing a girly melody or lyric doesn’t mean we’ll lose our own unique color. We’d just like for everyone to talk about our skills instead.
  • I like photo shoots better because it gives us more freedom to express ourselves instead of being strict to guidelines.
  • Being extraordinary is better than revealing.
  • Even if you don’t understand the language, you can still love the music.
  • You can just enjoy music without understanding it, music is a universal language.
  • When you run with all your might towards your dreams, I think you can be able to live a very fun life.
  •  I think a person is beautiful when she cherishes and loves oneself.
  • Singers put music into people’s lives, it’s the same on stage. Music reflects a person’s experiences and values, so if the singer can, through his gestures and speech, tell about his life you want to know. because this person’s music started playing.
  • A few times, I thought that maybe this isn’t for me, but training was fun. Now that I have the chance to sing songs, I would like to sing the songs that people can relate to themselves.
  • It’s not a case of singing well or not… The most important thing is to be yourself. Having confidence in yourself.
  • I want people to enjoy our music, wherever it is, you know? That’s why we do music and I want people to connect to us. We do this for everybody.
  • I love kids and I love children, you know? It might seem like it’s nothing, just being there for them, but just hugging them and showing them love is so much to them. I just stayed there for like a couple of hours and they called me “Mom,” I couldn’t leave, you know? They were crying when I wanted to leave and I want to support them as much as I can and really being there for them is. I realize it’s important.
  • I have the tendency to get tired of things easily. I’m the type to always want something new. If I keep repeating the same things, I have no motivation to move forward. I can be unpredictable, but that’s only when I’m CL. Chaerin is the total opposite of that. Though I have many sides of me, I keep the same lifestyle. It’s possible that you won’t understand this.
  • I don’t deliberately plan. For fashion, I can’t ignore the trends, but I would choose which ones to adopt for myself. But it’s not fun to just be trendy. Depth is also important. Just like in fashion, it’s more important to focus on the hidden details rather than the design that you see on the surface. The way I treat my clothes is that, I think the energy of the person who made it and the time that they have invested in it makes it worth more than just its expensive price. Therefore, I always wear them with a thankful heart.
  • I think it all comes from your mentality and passion. When I’m not working on something, I sleep for 12 hours, but when there’s work to do, I can do with only 2 hours of sleep. Singapore was the last location of the tour, and whenever I think of that moment when I’m singing in front of thousands of people, I feel overwhelmed. Normally, I’m not the type to cry, but by the time I reached my house in Seoul, tears were just flowing.
  • I feel really happy when I’m eating something delicious at home and I’m watching a sitcom or a romantic comedy with a guaranteed happy ending. I would choose lovely things that are unrealistic.
  • I like learning how to cook, dramas and romantic comedies, also the western ones, the most. When I was in school I really liked the story of kids that transformed as they survived bullies, like in ‘Mean Girls’. I had a really nerdy side to me back then and perhaps I saw myself in these characters.
  • I still paint pictures. But I don’t show them to anyone as I have a personality that does not want to show anything that is that is not perfect yet.
  • It hasn’t always been easy for me. I’ve experienced my share of failure, rejection, and despair. That’s why I possess both cold-heartedness and good judgment. I didn’t build the wall. You were the one that put the cement on what was “a wall” I know all too well that people only see what they want to see and remember only what they want to remember. Even as your mind wavers at useless things you keep putting on the cement on that wall. Long after the bricks inside have collapsed.
  • The most important thing to me is EnergyI wanna be forever young. Happy, you can’t always be happy. Isn’t that why you can become happy? Painting, something I do on stage or during the time I am not asleep. Book, one of my goals is to write a book. Travel, my dream is to travel the world. Just have Fun.
  • Music is my language.
  • We’re into discovering ourselves as 2NE1. Since all four of us are different, we inspire and push each other.
  • I actually don’t go to anyone, cos I’m the leader I kind of have to suck it in. I don’t want to show them that kind of struggle, so that they can rely on me.
  • Those are things I love but I don’t do it for that name, I don’t do it for people to call me fashionista or a leader but I love fashion and art and I’m enjoying what I do.
  • It’s from loving yourself. Everybody goes through that awkward teenage phase, and even the prettiest girl can think she’s ugly. It’s about going to another level when that hits you, you have ever get over that, and get up when things knock you down.
  • You live once and you can only be you, you can’t be somebody else. I don’t want to live my life regretting things. I want to say what I want to say, do what I wanna do. This moment will never come back. You have to capture every moment you get and appreciate it. You have to have respect for other people and appreciate everything in life but you have to trust in yourself.
  • There’s places I wanna go. I want to go to Egypt and Greece and places like that. I would ride a camel in Egypt, I would love to do that. Whenever I travel it’s for work but I want to go India. I would love to experience it, I love their culture, art and history.
  • I’m more of a muse type. Even when it comes to music, I wanna be the muse. I don’t wanna do it if its not 100% me. I’m waiting, maybe one day but for now I want to be a muse for somebody.
  • My advice is live and have fun when you’re young. I want people to dream. A lot of young kids don’t have any dreams theses, they give up too easily. I hope they can be excited about what’s going to happen tomorrow, because everything is possible!
  • I might sound like a nerd but I really love recording, making music, and videos and photoshpoots. I love what I do so that’s what I do for fun every day. I’m not good at taking a day off. I haven’t taken a holiday in four years. I only know how to work. I don’t like partying; I don’t go out that much. I really stay in the studio or my house.
  • I was a big fan of Teddy when I was young, he’s a rapper and I always listened to his album, and that’s why I wanted to go into his company, YG Family. I sent him all my videos and tapes, but I never had a response for three years so I was like, ‘Oh, is this not gonna work?’ Then one day I thought, ‘Maybe he didn’t see the video?’ So I was waiting in front of the building, it was winter, it was really cold and I actually handed it to him in person and he called me right back. It was really dramatic if I think back, it was a crazy thing to do, but I was young and I thought, ‘I have to do this. I don’t want to regret it.’ (I-D Magazine, April 2013)
  • Truthfully, I’d like for people to think that I’m cool. I don’t think I’ve ever thought of wanting to be sexy. I just want to be a cool woman. Of course I’d be grateful if you think that I’m pretty. Ah, I dieted a lot though (laughs) (Osen, June 2013)
  • My only hobby is cooking. I think of cooking another form of art. I often give food to the members and hear that it’s delicious. It’s one way which I use to try and distinguish CL and Chaerin. When I meet my friends and family, I want to show them Chaerin as much as possible.
  • I was always enrolled in an international school, (and realized that) foreigners have a very ‘fixed’ image of Asian girls. While (that image could be) positive, the opposite of that exists. I think the thought that ‘I want to break the mold’ just emerged naturally in my mind as I formed close relationships with foreign friends while growing up. Within the time that has passed, Jeremy Scott and will.i.am also told me that “they didn’t know that there are women who like hip-hop and wearing stylish clothes like me in Asia.” Ever since I heard those words, I’ve always wanted to let everyone know of a different image of Asian women. That there are actually a lot of cool women in Asia.
  • I don’t want to limit myself as a female rapper and I want to show a variety of things. As hip-hop flows in my blood, I’d like to show a variety of music with hip-hop as a base. In due course, later, I have to admit that I’d like to make my own album. I’d be really happy too if I could do a world tour. The day when I’ll be able to think about that will be a really thankful day for me.
  •  I want to find my colors more clearly. To be honest, a lot of people see me as 2NE1′s CL but I would like people to know that CL has a color of her own as well. As a female rapper, I want to become somebody who does not have any limits. (Star News, June 2013)
  • I like someone who I can comfortably connect with when talking to them. I’m someone who likes childish things like romantic comedies. Rather than a prince charming, it’d be nice if he is fun to be with and is a pleasant and comfortable person. When I ask the people around me ‘who do you think I look good with?’, they’d say, “I don’t think it’s a Korean person”.(Laughs) I believe that a good man will appear one day.
  • I’ve always dreamed of it. An image of an energetic stage that people can breathe in is drawn in my mind. I want to try stages with ‘freedom’ where the focus is on the relationship between music and me, and large-scale stages where the highlight would be the stage and visual effects.
  • I do my music, stage performances and music video with the mindset of not only enjoying it with the fans but with everyone. I think maybe that’s why this solo song is made like that. Because it’s a song I really treasure, I pour so much love and affection to it. I think ‘The Baddest Female’ is a good start for my solo. (KukiNews, June 2013)
  •  I will keep attempting something new and do what I like. If people enjoy listening to my music and if I develop a certain type of bond with them, then that’s when I think I’ve accomplished the goal. As a soloist, I want to be devoted to my music.
  • I wish to live faithfully and happily instead of being greedy. I’m working hard to achieve that. I feel thankful just being able to sit here (and be interviewed).
  • I always say I believe in connections but not in fate. Connections and ties appear out of nowhere but it’s up to me to turn it into fate. (Naver Star Column, June 2013)
  • My father showed (me) how he wanted me to see the world not by words but by actions.
  • So I realized the significance of being responsible for my actions and that my parents did not have much to do with it. That’s why I started to want more. It was my footsteps, it was my life.
  • Many people say, ‘what if you had not debuted as 2NE1?’ Well, I think that I would have lived a good life as a college student. I would have become a diligent student Lee Chae-lin who studies hard and passionately. (Tvreport, June 2013)
  • I don’t have a specific target,” she says of crossover plans. “As long as there is one person who enjoys my music, I will want to do music. I want to make music that people can relate to. I don’t have a timetable or really a specific goal. I just want to make good music. (Billboard, June 2013)
  • My ideal type I think it’s important to be with someone you can communicate with. Someone that you can build lasting memories and genuinely enjoy spending time with. I don’t really look at outer appearance or his finances. I earn my own money, so it doesn’t matter [laughs].
  • Music, fashion and there are so many things I want to show as a person. If given the chance, I want to have my own album and stage. I want to be the kind of singer who can influence many people. Firstly, my dream is to release a proper solo album as CL. I want to release an album where it will give me memories that I can remember even when I become a grandma.
  • Of course I’ve always dreamed of having my solo. However, I wasn’t greedy about releasing it quickly. For me, a meaningful solo is more important than releasing it fast. The biggest part of that “meaningful-ness” is the ‘fun’ part. Be it pictorials or whatever work it is, if it’s not fun, I can immediately quit doing it tomorrow. (Vogue, July Issue 2013)
  • I’ve heard things like ‘she’s making a fool of herself’ ‘she’s like a crazy person’ etc. (Laughs) But if these are their reactions to what I look like on stage in my performances, then I’ll accept them as compliments.
  • Including me, YG Family always does things that we like and things that we think are cool. Also, whatever music it is, we always create it with the hopes that the public will listen to it. I definitely like rock and R&B. However, I’m a rapper. The blood that runs in me is hip-hop. Because of that, whatever genre it is, I always end up mixing it with hip-hop.
  •  I have an addiction to imagining things. (Laughs) I like leaving reality and dreaming away. Whenever I see very realistic movies or news, I get so surprised that my heart starts beating fast. There are times when I listen to music and before I know it, I can’t hear the music any more because I’m too immersed in my imaginations.
  • When I was little, I went to a friend’s house and was shocked. I ate dinner and watched the TV with my friend’s dad, who came home wearing a suit. My parents also worked, but they just wore jeans and sneakers. When we played together, we’d listen to music  and draw. At that time, I was so shocked at the thought of our house being ‘different’ from others in all ways. But as time passed, I came to think of it as something special. Because of a dad who taught me to think of the ladybug on the window as a friend, and an aunt who has interest in indie things, I am able to appreciate and give meaning to the little things.
  • I grew up as a child who made her own decisions at any time and in whatever things.
  • I didn’t want to stop. I wanted to give back the energy I received from so many people. Be it recording or anything that I want to do, it’s frustrating because I have to stop. I said this a while back too. It is fine even if I don’t sleep, not even for a bit, I just want to keep working. I don’t want to look back. I just want to keep on moving forward.
  • I don’t differentiate the markets. I believe that even if I release music here in Korea, people from around the world can still listen to it. It’s not like I will be changing the music and fashion that I like according to wherever I am. Wherever it may be I will still be me. I do go overseas for performances and other work-related matters (already) anyway.
  • I want to be someone influential. Through my fashion, music, make-up or whatever it is, I’d like for anyone to have fun and gain confidence from them. I want to live feeling alive. Of course, I’d like to enjoy life (as a woman) too some day*. There’s a reason to why I was born as a woman, don’t you think so? (Vogue, July Issue 2013)
  •  I’m thankful for it. We honestly just wanted to create the best music as possible and if the fans in the international market embrace it, we are grateful and appreciative. We feel like we should repay our fans with better music. Every time we release an album I think to myself “How should we make our fans happy?” I hope you guys enjoy the upcoming releases.
  • I believe now is the time to take everything to another level. It’s definitely a challenging task, but as long as we have to deal with this fact wouldn’t it be better to do it with a positive mind? I believe that if I enjoy the process I will be able to have good results and overcome the hardships.
  • Whatever you wear as long as you are devoted to the music and express it with your own heart, you should stand by it.
  • The key to ‘Missing You’ is the lyrics. It’s not simply a song between an ordinary man and woman, but it’s something bigger—something that can resonate to everyone who has or had been in love. Perhaps an emotion you feel when you’re graduating. To explain it easier, the verse focuses on someone new, while the hook and the bridge parts are a longing for the person who left. People might find it complicated as the song holds two different stories. But this is not just a love story between a man and a woman, but it’s a love story of many people, a story to which many people can relate. We found out later that all of us thought of each other when recording the song. At the time we didn’t even tell each other that. I remembered the time when 2NE1 was yet to be formed, and also recalled the time when I encountered new people in life. That’s the feeling I thought of when I sang the song.
  •  I actually don’t keep up with those things. I don’t like being swayed by what other people say. I did hear about the Billboard article, and it felt really good. It felt nice because they could have shed light on it from a negative perspective, but they didn’t, and it was nice.
  • Many celebrities make their relationships public, and I so wish I was one of them. (laughter) The ‘dating ban’ at the agency is lifted, and yet I am not in a relationship. I would love to be in one. I promise I will let you know when I am. (laughter)
  • Stevie Wonder is a person who has a great and broad-minded view of the world. I thought a lot of things, seeing his mind that goes beyond that of ordinary people. As a musician, having a boyfriend and relationship is very important, but I came to think that I want to use the power of music for bigger purposes, too. Spreading warmth to as many people as possible and making them unite is something that only music can do. I want to do such things with my music, and that is my concept of love.
  • It came to us that all of this (the world tour) was made by the members, the fans, the staff, together. Although it is important to just keep on looking forward and going on like that, we realized the importance of the people whom we do it with; which deepened our affection for each other.
  • Last year was hard for me, but he encouraged me a lot and gave me strength. I started composing abruptly, from Dec. 2013. I started it as a hobby, and he (YG) monitored my lyrics and gave advice. I wasn’t sure about writing the lyrics in Korean, so I began by writing in English. He nudged me to write in Korean and made “CRUSH” the album’s title.
  • I never dreamed my group would sing songs I made. I started writing the lyrics as I would write my diary. I am thankful for all the help and for the quick process, which enabled my songs to be included. I wrote many songs, but I selected songs that would go well with 2NE1. ““BABY I MISS YOU” was included because I wanted to try out a new style.
  • Many people love my songs, and I received positive response, so it gave me strength to compose new songs. I want to continue composing for fun from now on. Well, actually, composing songs is not something I have to do as a living, for example, so I can work with pleasure. I feel happy writing songs for my members, and for our performances
  • Yes. TEDDY, along with CHOICE 37 and DEE.P and all composers in YG helped me. They did a lot of monitoring, gave me opinions and cheered for me. It was fun for me.
  •  Last year, we only released single albums. Then one day, I wanted to say something. At that time, I didn’t know I would write songs for our album or for our group. I started writing songs as I would write a diary, and wrote lyrics to the beats that we already know. I began as a hobby, and my lyrics were in English at first. YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk listened to my songs and recommended I write in Korean. “IF I WERE YOU” was the first Korean song I wrote.
  • Well, actually, I never felt I had to look at the Billboard Chart or its rankings. It was like a surprise gift to me. It was an album we prepared for a long time, and it was an unexpected present for us.
  • I think people regard us to be unique because we are different., thinking that “2NE1 has something that other girl group doesn’t have.” I heard our fans are more attracted to us when we sing in Korean rather than in English. It was really surprising that though our overseas fans don’t understand Korean language, they understand the feelings.
  • rankly, chart rankings and being in the first place were really important to me. We have been singing for 6 years, and I believe it’s important to think outside the box. Doing fun music with my members and repaying our fans with our good music became more meaningful to me than rankings.
  • Yeah, I think we did. I composed the songs myself and we recorded our songs by ourselves, which was a huge step forward. It was a huge improvement for us. Until now, someone would be there directing us, but this time, we did it all by ourselves. It took longer time, but it was meaningful, and we became closer.
  • All songs are very dear to me. Do I really have to choose? (laughter) Among the songs I didn’t compose, I like “MTBD.” I like that I sang my type of rap in a long time.
  • I really like clothes, and I think I will do some collaboration in the future. I became a model for cosmetics, and then met with our CEO Yang. And he said, “You are such a good model. The “before and after” of you without and with makeup is shockingly different, you know.” After looking at the advertisement photos, he said I looked good. I try not to look so pretty, but cool.
  •  For the last 2 years? It was not the hardest time, but… After the mini-album that included “I AM THE BEST,” we only released singles. I wanted to share good music with my fans. I am very grateful that our members didn’t give up. I thank them for not giving up, and trying their best to improve their skills in singing and such.
  • New songs give me strength. Meeting my fans is the greatest joy for me. Concert seats are filled with our fans, so it’s a very endearing place. We made happy memories in the first world tour, so it will be a good opportunity this time, too.
  • I studied music as a young girl, and I made my debut early on. I think people make me grow. Before, I thought what I wanted to do was important, and that I should do what I want. But now, I want our fans to give us power, and want to spend time with them. I want to grow with my fans together.
  •  I didn’t imagine that 2NE1 would sing the songs all together. When I’m bored, I come up with lots of inspirations. One day, I was just at home and suddenly, I wanted to say lots of stories. Plus, I thought ‘what would it be like if I say this’ or ‘what about talking about this’. So, I wrote the songs just personally. Notably, I have never imagined I could ever write lyrics in Korean. First, I began by making an English demo. It has been only a few months since I began writing songs and now I have come to have this good opportunity naturally, in a very short period of time. I’m really grateful about it and I look forward to the result. But, at the same time, I’m concerned, too.
  • Each of the songs is unique and since all of them are like my own children, I can’t pick only one”, to a request to pick the song that she likes the most among the three.
  • Since it’s our first album in a long time, we actually wanted to be busy. Being busy makes us happy, and that’s how we feel everyday.
  • As an artist I learned a lot making our own concerts, and I also improved. We are enjoying the process this time again, and we hope to learn more through this one.
  • In fact, people around me often says, “How can she do those things” so I came to refrain myself, you know, I’m a person, too.
  • Right now, I think I must bet everything on 2NE1. I have to, and want to bet on 2NE1. I have to and want to.
  • I think that it’ll be good as long as you do better than what you did yesterday. If you’re victorious every day, (those victories) will build up to something big.
  • Before you get used to everything, that’s why the present is the best.
  • But if I like a guy, I approach him first and confess that I like him.
  • I’ve gained even bigger fantasies, and have fallen that much deeper in love with music. It’s really so much fun that lately, I’ve been thinking about nothing else but that (songwriting). I’ve been continuously writing songs as if I was writing a diary. There’s still so much that I want to say.
  • I’m always in a state of mental breakdown while performing. Someone who has lost her senses. It’s not fun if I’m thinking too much.
  • When standing on stage, it’s important to have confidence, more so than anything else. To have confidence in front of the public, you should know your personality better than anyone else and you should be able to express that well. When performing, if I blindly and only look for fashion and make-up that is new and unprecedented, it might result in a look that is totally disconnected with me. That’s why taking things like ‘something that matches me best’, ‘something that I like best’ into consideration while styling is my know-how.
  • To me, there is no such thing as a style pet peeve. Everyone should be free to express themselves.
  • I like looking at old photos of models. I’m able to gain a lot and a variety of inspirations from them. Although I’ve tried many looks thus far, I’m always wanting to transform with a new look.
  • For me, music and fashion are complementary, they are two different types of language that talk about the same feelings.
  • I believe that you can be friends with anyone as long as your souls connect, disregarding age. I have a lot of curiosity. And I’m not embarrassed to reveal that I’m a fan of someone. If I liked what they do or their works, I would make the first move in saying that ‘it’s really cool’. I think that makes them comfortable with opening their hearts to me.
  • I’m not afraid of failure. Even if I wore something that didn’t match me well and ugly photos are taken.. then well, that’d just be that. It’s not fun to try things that are safe from the very start. If I have amassed a 100 I would take away 50 and start over. That’s my way. I don’t define CL’s color and style. I want to live colorfully. Just as my name, ‘Chaerin’, refers to a colorful mystical animal.
  • I fell deeper in love with music.
  • I had thought of myself as someone who ‘expresses’ music rather than ‘make’ it. Just like how meeting a man, that is your ideal type, in real life could disappoint you, I felt that if I knew too much about music, it could shatter my fantasy of it. However, at one point of time, I had things that I wanted to say and I wrote them into songs. Although I didn’t know that they would be included in the album, I’m very happy to be able to share them with everyone in the form of results. As expected of music, it didn’t disappoint me.
  • I’m not a model right? When I wear beautiful clothes and attend fashion shows, I’m going to do so as a musician and as someone who represents Asian women. Whether it is musicians or others from Korea.. such that when these people see me, they could be proud that I was there.
  • I think that it’s important to live each day with faith. I believe that if you look at it that way, the great dream that you dream of would seem closer. Just as I didn’t know that I would be here 6 years ago. I’ve become a cover girl for ELLE Korea! In the future, I’m going to live every moment with a 100% too.

  1. This is all so true, and I can relate to this in some extent… I especially like that bit about people saying there are limits. To me, after seeing the New Evolution Tour and the collab stage of CL and madam Lee, I thought ‘So she can be this crazy’. And then I see the performance for MTBD… It’s like, wow. She’s even crazier on that stage, I came to realize that there’s no such thing as limit, as it prevents you from reaching further 😉
